MONDRIAN
Mondrian's style art is well-known, His work inspired me to create the Mondrian Twist. The lamp is made from alloy and handmade stained glass. It stands 1300mm high and is 300 x 300 mm at the base, as it rises it corkscrews through a twist and the top panel becomes a rectangle of 330 x 250mm.
How the twist came about, it was Sunday morning, and I was ready to fold the two halves. A friend calls, I am trying to fold and talk on the phone at the same time, I set it up wrong, I was 30mm out at one end.
I decided to fold the 2nd half out by 30mm and see how it goes, I was working on the theory that two wrongs make a right. What it has done is the cabinet is square at the bottom and rectangular at the top and corkscrews through a twist, I love it and to date have not made a straight Mondrian.
When I was creating the lamp, I went to a junk store in Hunter Valley called THE FORGE. This is when I came upon a pair of Mondrian high heels, without hesitation I decided they had to be the crown on the lamp.
The photo of the shoes are the original shoes on the seat of my car on the day I found them. The shoes are no longer available, so I buy white high heels and airbrush them in the style of Mondrian.
